Fishing at Stampede Reservoir
Stampede Reservoir is where anglers head when they have their minds set on kokanee salmon. Fishing is also great for brown, rainbow, and mackinaw trout. Surprising to some, there is a population of smallmouth bass in the lake too.
Where to Fish on Stampede Reservoir
Stampede Reservoir has great fly fishing around the creek mouths and off the points. For those trolling, the mouth of Sage Hen Creek or the Little Truckee River inlet are good places to start. The area around the islands near Captain Roberts Boat Ramp and by the dam are other good fishing ground. Up toward Hoke Valley and the Sardine Valley Creek inlet can be rewarding fishing spots.
Ten to fourteen-inch kokanee are common, usually hooked at depths anywhere from 15 feet early in the summer to 50 feet when the water warms. Rainbow trout are often up to 15 inches.
